Personal Review Points: 8/10
If it wasn’t for the cheesy lines and ridiculous set up of the film, I could give this a 10. The choreography and dance routines are amazing and inspirational for any young dancers watching. The film puts across the moral that you can get anywhere if you try hard, even though you’ll be put down many times on the way. The ending makes me smile and the first time I watched it I cried.
There’s everything you’d expect from a girly film. Romance, dance, a woman with a beautiful figure to make you envious of, great music, hot guys and a soppy ending. If you’re into hiphop and breakbeat you’ll definitely like the soundtrack to this film - it’s my favourite thing about it. The storyline itself is good, Honey really makes her way through from the “ghetto” and the outcome is very inspiring but some parts made me snort at the cheesyness. She seems too overconfident at times and you get the scenes where a few guys will be whistling and checking her out randomly - something that really isn’t relevant and I don’t think there’s any need for it. Especially for a film with a younger based audience.
Overall, it’s not a bad film. Despite the movie director who tries to talk ghetto and the blindingly gorgeous abs on Jessica Alba that made me want to run straight to the operating table for liposuction - it’s a film worth watching if you like dance based movies.
