I Dislike Snails

July 5, 2008 || Filed under general ||

I always wondered what the point of a snail is? Why are they here, apart from to make me miserable and frightened with their scary eye things that pop in and out of their heads and their gooey bodies making a mess everywhere. Everything in life has to have a purpose, right? What the hell does a snail do?

It crawls for 24 hours to get from one side of the pavement to the other. Spends another three days turning back on itself because it forgot where it was going after taking so damn long, then eventually ends it’s life either being eaten by a bird or stepped on, usually by Sam. I remember being out with him one night and he stood on like ten of them on one big long road near his house.

I mean honestly. What a completely crap life.

If re-incarnation exists, I hope I don’t become one. Not only would I be petrified of myself (strange phobia, snails…) but I’d live my life in fear knowing one day a big shoe is going to crush me into tiny snail pieces. What a horrible thought. Hmmm.

  1. Aha. I enjoyed your rant. :)
I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a snail. I’ve seen like.. shells, and been told there were snails hiding up in them.. but I’ve never actually seen a snail.

  2. EW Snails are DISGUSTING. My cousin has a few of them in her saltwater tank at the office, and they like cling to the glass and just ewwww

  3. I used to love snails when I was younger, I use to hold them in my hands. I’m terrified of them now, it makes me feel sick thinking of holding them now.

  4. aww. I actually love snails. When I was younger, I’d used to collect them in plastic jars and try to make pets out of them. And then my mom told me what I had were slugs, not snails, and that sort of made me upset, but I still loved them all the same!

    i guess that’s a bit… weird, lol.

  5. I don’t hate snails, but I do agree that they’re quite useless! As a child I once got a bunch of them, stuck them by my house’s front door, and waited for them to move. But they didn’t, so I forgot about them. Four hours later, my grandmother found 20 snails and their trails ALL OVER our front door, and flipped out ahaha.

  6. I actually like snails. I thought they were really fascinating when I was younger and I still do, but then I like a lot of insects.

  8. I don’t think they really have a purpose at all. I’d never really considered it. LOL, I think that they’re cute.

  10. Say they’re useless to France :P

I’ve never considered snails bad. Just slugs. They’re just plain ew. At least snails have shells that you can use to pick them up if you ever wanted to. Slugs are just like snails without that so it’s a lump of slime basically.

I just totally got put off my ice-cream :(

  14. lol, yes snails are gross but they must have some purpose or else they’d be extinct by now right? i remember walking on this one road and i couldn’t step anywhere without crunching on a snail!

  17. aww :/ i liek snails they are cute though! well they are when they are little the bigger ones are kinda ugly. i swear a snail bit me once. i SWEAR it had teeth and everything eww… havent touched a snail since.

i feel bad for them though all dead and people hating them so i usually pick them up and put them on the other side so they get where they are going faster… that probably confuses them though maybe i make it worse.

  18. I’ve always wondered the exact same thing about fleas. I am convinced they were put on this world simply as a small torture device given life. I have to admit though I’d much rather come back as a flea than a snail.
